ScribeUp has closed a $13 million Series A led by Curql Collective, the fintech investment firm built for credit unions, with Mucker Capital and Service Ventures participating: $10 million of equity plus a $3 million venture debt facility, for hiring, technology and go-to-market.
Founded in 2020 by Jordan Mackler and CTO Yohei Oka, who met at MIT, ScribeUp provides the infrastructure for what it calls the recurring economy: subscriptions, buy now pay later instalments, rent and insurance. Bank and credit union customers can identify, cancel and update recurring payments inside their institution's app, get warned when a bill would overdraw the account, and have its AI flag services that are no longer competitively priced.
The product is live with more than 60 financial institutions. Curql president and CEO Nick Evens said institutions want to offer bill control themselves rather than lose the relationship to consumer apps.
