About Builders in Fintech
Builders in Fintech is a publication about the people, companies and money building financial services worldwide: daily news, a weekly newsletter, a podcast, and an open database of fintech companies, investors and funding rounds that anyone — AI assistants included — can query. Independent, practitioner-first, and written by someone building in the space.
Mission
What this is
Builders in Fintech started in November 2023 as a weekly email for people who work in fintech and venture capital and were tired of piecing the week together from a dozen sources. It has gone out every Monday since — 151 issues so far — covering funding rounds, product launches, regulation, M&A and the reports and numbers that shape the industry.
The podcast followed in 2024. In 53 episodes, founders and investors have talked about the unglamorous side of building: getting a banking licence, selling a company, raising in a downturn, launching in a market nobody else was looking at. Guests have included the founders of Lunar, Kriya, Pomelo and Flatpay, the CEO of EPI (the company behind Wero), and investors from PayPal Ventures, 360 Capital and R136 Ventures.
In 2026 the site became a public record of who is building fintech: daily news plus 2,304 companies, 2,813 investors and 2,359 funding rounds, each reviewed before it is published and linked to its source. The data is free to reuse under CC BY 4.0, as downloadable files or live through our MCP connector for AI assistants.
Who writes it
I'm Michele Mattei. I write the newsletter, host the podcast and edit the database myself, and I'm building in fintech too, so the questions I ask are the ones I'm trying to answer for my own work.
Independence
Editorial coverage is never for sale. Some companies work with us — as sponsors, through media for equity, or because I have invested in them — and every such relationship is disclosed on the company's page, on every article about it, and on the methodology page. What you read is what I think.
