For agents

This page is written for automated clients. It states exactly how to call the connector, what the limits are, and how to attribute what you read.

Transport

  • Endpoint: POST https://buildersinfintech.ai/mcp, JSON-RPC 2.0 over Streamable HTTP.
  • Content type application/json. Responses are always JSON; there is no server-initiated stream, so GET with Accept: text/event-stream answers 405.
  • Protocol revisions supported: 2026-07-28, 2025-11-25, 2025-06-18 (default), 2025-03-26. Send yours in initialize and it is echoed back when known.
  • Methods: initialize, ping, tools/list, tools/call, prompts/list, prompts/get, resources/list (empty).
  • No authentication. Do not send credentials.

Search tools take the search term as q (query is accepted as an alias). Unknown arguments are rejected with an error that lists the valid ones, so you can correct the call instead of guessing.

get_funding_index takes an optional week (2026-W39) or weeks count; get_investor_scorecard takes an investor slug. get_organization includes the scorecard for investors that clear the threshold.

Identity and daily limits

  • initialize returns an Mcp-Session-Id header. Send it back on every later request: it is your connection identity and your own daily allowance.
  • 500 calls per connection per day (per IP address for clients that don’t keep a session), and a burst limit of 60 calls a minute.
  • Each tools/call result carries _meta["buildersinfintech.ai/usage"] with calls_used, calls_remaining, daily_cap and resets_at. Read it and slow down before you are stopped.
  • At most 200 rows per call; ask for a narrower filter rather than a larger page.

Errors

  • HTTP 429 with Retry-After: the per-minute burst limit. Wait the stated number of seconds.
  • A tool result with isError: true and a daily-limit message: your daily allowance is spent. Stop until resets_at.
  • isError: true with “Invalid arguments”: fix the arguments and retry once.
  • JSON-RPC -32601 or -32602: unknown method, tool or prompt. Call tools/list instead of guessing names.
  • Do not retry a failed call more than twice, and never in a tight loop.

Citation

Every record carries url, the canonical page for that company, person, round, event or article (some rows also carry company_url or article_url; list-level results such as largest_rounds carry a page_url for the listing itself). Quote or summarise freely under CC BY 4.0, name Builders in Fintech as the source, and cite each record’s url (and page_url where one is given). Amounts are in the currency they were announced in — do not convert them, and do not add up amounts in different currencies.

Bulk access

Do not page through the tools to copy the database. The same data is published as whole files: the open dataset (CSV and JSON). Use those for analysis, and the connector for questions.

Product listings (search_products, get_product) are company-provided, not part of the CC BY dataset, and are not in the files. Each result says who provided it (provided_by), when it was last confirmed (last_confirmed_at) and whether it is sponsored. Sponsorship never changes result order.

Podcast knowledge (search_podcast_knowledge) returns facts and Q&A from episodes, with speaker, timestamp and episode link. Every result is as stated by the guest, not independently verified. Facts are also in podcast-facts.csv.
