The Financial Times reported on Thursday that Monzo is considering a funding round that would value the UK digital bank at about £7.5 billion, or roughly $10.1 billion, and is preparing to talk to venture capital investors. The report cites unnamed sources and Monzo had not commented.
The plan follows two routes that did not close. Nubank takeover talks, which had reportedly valued Monzo at £10 billion, broke down, and Nu Holdings said in a 30 September filing that it was not pursuing a transaction with Monzo. Talks on a minority stake sale of up to 15% to private equity at £8 billion have stalled.
Monzo's last valuation was £4.5 billion, in a 2024 employee share sale. In March it decided to leave the US market and focus on markets where it has scale.
