MNT-Halan raises more than $82M in securitised bond issuances as its active loan portfolio approaches $1B

MNT-Halan has closed more than $82 million in securitised bond issuances, in three tranches, each with a 13-month maturity and an A- rating from MERIS. The money refinances its loan book and funds new lending.
Founded in 2018 and led by co-founder and CEO Mounir Nakhla, the Cairo-based company is Egypt's first fintech unicorn. It lends and takes payments through the Halan app and a nationwide physical network, across microfinance, consumer finance and SMEs.
At the end of June the group had EGP 46.7 billion, about $947 million, in active loans, 1.9 million active borrowers and 1,200 distribution points. By the end of 2025 it held 24.3% of Egypt's non-bank microfinance market by loan book and 14% of non-bank consumer finance disbursements.
The issuance comes days after MNT-Halan announced plans to float 20% of its Egyptian business on the Egyptian Exchange.
The read: securitisation, not equity, is what keeps this lending machine funded.
