WayaWaya has partnered with Choice Bank to launch WayaWaya Banking in Kenya, a digital service that lets customers open bank accounts, hold multiple currencies, make local and international transfers and pay utility bills.
Choice Bank, a microfinance bank offering API banking, banking-as-a-service, private banking and foreign exchange, provides the regulated infrastructure under a Central Bank of Kenya framework, while WayaWaya builds the technology and manages the customer experience. Founder and CEO Teddy Ogallo describes the approach as intelligent adaptive banking, in which AI adapts the interface to each customer.
WayaWaya aims to build a pan-African neobank through bank partnerships, and expansion beyond Kenya will need local partners and approvals. In July it appointed Raj Singh, a former Group COO at Chase Bank Kenya, as a non-executive director. Kenya had 54 million mobile money subscriptions in June 2026, 88.8% of them on M-PESA.
