The Financial Times reported on 30 October, citing unnamed sources, that private equity firms CD&R and GTCR have teamed up on a joint bid to buy out Global Payments, the card processor. The deal would value the company at an enterprise value of about $40 billion. Talks are ongoing and may not lead to a deal. CD&R declined to comment to the FT, and Global Payments had not responded.
Global Payments has a market capitalisation of about $23 billion and net debt of about $17 billion, and its shares are near their lowest level in a decade. GTCR is its largest shareholder, after Global Payments bought Worldpay from GTCR and FIS in a cash-and-stock deal valued at more than $24 billion in 2025, a purchase investors criticised.
William Blair said a deal could signal another wave of M&A that leaves few public traditional fintechs.
