Mercury has launched Mercury Payroll, bringing payroll into the banking account used by its more than 450,000 customers. Founders can run W-2 payroll, pay 1099 contractors and issue bonuses from their Mercury account, with setup in about 15 minutes because company details are already on file.
Mercury's AI agent, Command, handles tasks such as salary changes, overtime and reimbursements. Mercury files and remits federal and state payroll taxes, produces year-end W-2s and 1099s and registers companies in new states, with coverage in all 50 states. Benefits include health insurance and 401(k) plans through Human Interest.
Payroll is free for eligible customers through the end of 2026, then $100 a month plus $50 for each person paid. It builds on Central, the AI-native payroll startup Mercury acquired in April. CEO Immad Akhund said paying a team should feel as simple as moving money. Mercury raised $200 million at a $5.2 billion valuation in May.
