The Bank of Thailand plans to introduce five measures between November 2026 and March 2027 covering stablecoins, buy now pay later services and high-value gold transactions, Governor Witai Rattanakorn said. It will also cut credit bureau enquiry fees and tighten oversight of money changers. The proposed gold rules target cash payments above THB 10 million.
The central bank also plans tighter supervision of non-bank lenders, payment providers, foreign exchange operators and asset management companies as they grow in size and complexity.
The plans follow 18 measures introduced over the past year. The bank reports that the value of cash withdrawals fell by more than 57% compared with January 2026 after tighter controls on cash transactions of THB 5 million or more, and that fee cuts across 19 services could save consumers and businesses up to THB 8 billion a year. An SMEs Credit Portal is due in January 2027.
