Quartz is an AI personal banker, started in 2025 by André Silva and co-founder Mateus Mesquita Alves; André previously spent six years at Revolut leading international expansion and new market launches, after starting his career in investment banking in London.
For most people a private banker or financial advisor is not an option because they are priced out, and managing investments proactively is close to a full-time job; AI makes the personalisation needed for advice possible at scale and at a much lower cost.
Quartz's product is built on three building blocks: visibility (knowing where a person holds and invests money), context (goals, constraints, family situation, sophistication) and advice, addressed in that sequence.
Quartz syncs brokers, pension providers and bank accounts in real time or near real time, covering the majority of UK brokers, pension providers and banks.
Charlie is the name of Quartz's AI personal banker; a large part of the work went into its memory layer so that every insight connects back to what the person holds, their risk level and their goals.
Quartz intends to pursue a MiFID investment licence with financial advice permission in order to provide fully regulated advice; the connections, context layer and market data integrations are already in place.
Quartz is not currently regulated as a financial adviser in the UK; it provides factual, objective insights on a person's wealth and the user chooses their own course of action.
Open banking covers only about 5–10% of the wealth Quartz sees, because it reaches current accounts, some savings accounts and credit card statements but not investment, pension or ISA accounts.
Quartz built in-house connectors to brokers and pension providers such as eToro, Trading 212, Interactive Brokers, Fidelity and Vanguard, where the bulk of its clients' wealth sits; these proprietary connectors are its main edge.
The UK regulator's open finance roadmap, extending open banking to investment and other accounts, would bring better customer outcomes; Quartz wants to contribute to making such connections an industry standard while building bilateral connectors in the meantime.
